Oolyfie - the story behind the name
Our cottage sits just above a working olive grove, harvested every season, a quiet little patch of the Klein Karoo. So you'd think the name comes from there.
And it does. Sort of.
"Oolyfie" is a play on words in Afrikaans. "Olyf" means olive. But say "oolyfie" out loud with a smile and a wink, and any Afrikaans-speaker will tell you it also means something a little cheekier - a lekker, shapely body. The kind of compliment you'd give your beloved.
So she's our cottage in the olives. And she's a bit of a stunner. Both things are true.
